Must Have Essential for First Time Mom

I didn't anticipate I would have any problems breastfeeding, but I have very sensitive nipples and the bad latch in the hospital did damage which took weeks to heal. My pediatrician recommended these. When I finally discovered these during the healing process, they worked like a charm. I had ordered the medela version but they were taking forever to arrive, like ten days, and I was struggling to breastfeed and pump which each day going without the nipple shield was excruciating and stressful and hurting my supply. Another mom friend gave me these that she had on hand while I waited for the medela ones and they worked amazing. They are much thinner than they look and when the medela finally arrived, my baby and I didn't like them-the silicone was thicker and the conical shape of the nipple was weird. I immediately ordered more of these Lansinoh ones to have anywhere around the house that I would breastfeed. I didn't know what to expect or how they worked by looking at photo, but they are very thin, almost like a second skin, and you just put it over your own and it acts like a passable membrane and allows your newborn to latch properly. Honestly, I wish I would have had these before I gave birth and brought them with me to the hospital. It would have saved me a lot of pain and suffering and I probably wouldn't be having the difficulty of doing everything I can now to build my milk supply back up. I really wish they had these in every hospital and that every lactation consultant had these on hand. Even if you don't think you have sensitive nipples, I would buy these if you've never breastfed. They are relatively inexpensive and good to have on hand. Don't wait until after the baby to order them! I used them for a couple of weeks and now that my nipples are healed I don't need to use them at all.

    Good

I like the thickness of these. Wish the nipple was a little longer like the other brand. Love the Carry case. Very good purchase

    Unnatural at first

These came with a little bit of a learning curve for me. But they really were a lifesaver to protect my nipples when my first didn’t have a great latch. We worked with a lactation consultant and a speech therapist and they recommended these. Things got better and we didn’t need them anymore!

    Lansinoh Nipple Shields

These are the only reason I was able to breastfeed my baby. I know LCs say not to continue to use them but they worked great!! I used the shields for three months before getting my baby to latch without one. These shields were my favorite because they fit the best and stayed put.

    Super comfortable to nurse

Super comfortable to nurse with specially at the beginning when breastfeeding is so hard. Only thing I found annoying was that they were so flimsy to put on but that helped my baby attach better so I can’t really complain. I would totally use them again if I find the need to.
